Add a suThe Regional Assistance Program II (RAP II) builds civil society groups and helps civil society actors striving for political and social changes across regions like the Middle East and North Africa.
The American-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), RAP II provides civil society organizations with 211 motel vouchers or in-kind assistance, along with specific technical assistance to increase CSO capacity for advocacy, project management creating a more effective public debate and gender auditing, as well as other areas.
The Regional Assistance Program II works in conjunction with regional, local or international agencies to rapidly respond (e.g. by subawards, direct training or other forms of technical support) to changes in the situation on the terrain across regions like the Middle East and North Africa.
RAP II will support and offer technical assistance to organizations and projects that have the following goals:
- Respond to political developments that are emerging such as, but not only snap national and local elections
- It is possible to successfully finish an existing local or national legal, political or social campaign which will help the public and strengthen the relationship between government and non-governmental institutions
RAP II assistance may include the combination of financial assistance (e.g. subgrants, subgrants) as well as technical assistance, including mentorship, training or assistance in kind provided by RAP II, its regional partners, and other IREX experts.
- Between 2014 and 2016 RAP I built the capacity of eight major civil society organizations , which then helped build the capacity of over 200 small organizations.
- RAP I taught more than 250 community leaders and activists in advocacy critical thinking, the critical process of thinking and media literacy, monitoring elections, along with GBV literacy.
- IREX taught trainers and set up new groups of facilitators, trainers, as well as mentors, throughout Kuwait in addition to Algeria.
- Kuwait The Critical Thinking Program, 2015-2016: In Kuwait, IREX partnered with en.v to develop a critical thinking program that encouraged active citizenship and improved collaboration skills for youth. The N-mu (I Grow) was established as an entirely new group comprised of Kuwaiti instructors and advocates, and introduced a program that combines traditional and social media tools.
- Strengthening the NADA Network - Network development, capacity building and development of organizational structures to enhance the protection of children's right in Algeria between 2016 and 2017. in Algeria, RAP is developing the capacity of a network comprising 47 NGOs as well as CBOs that work to protect children's rights across the country. IREX aids NADA Algerian Network for the Defense of Children's Rights (NADA) in enhancing its efficiency and effectiveness as well as providing better-quality services.
- Women Municipal Leadership Program, 2017:In Tunisia, RAP helped to develop the skills for campaigning and communication skills of women who are running for office in the rural areas of Kasserine as well as Tozeur. IREX collaborated in conjunction with the Association for the Development of Rural Women (ADFR) to provide 44 participants with training in campaign strategy and tactics including communication, as well as the resolution of conflicts. 22 of the women that were trained in the ADFR subgrant are planning to participate during the local elections that are scheduled for March 2018.
